Coleman Backs Second Airport
David Coleman, Federal Member for Banks, is backing a second Sydney Airport stating that “the best city in the world needs and deserves first rate infrastructure”.
“After decades of studies, conversations, and reviews it is a time to commit to building a second airport at Badgery’s Creek,” Mr Coleman said.
Mr Coleman said that a second airport would help to ease pressure at Kingsford Smith, giving Sydneysiders access to two world-class airports.
“Without a second airport, the pressure at Kingsford Smith will only increase. The second airport will increase the variety of flights passengers will have access to and also help alleviate the traffic issues that have plagued Kingsford Smith for so long now.
“A second airport will also help to share the noise burden which is currently placed on many residents in the St George area. Since being elected, I have received numerous complaints about aircraft noise. A second airport will mean that the area around Kingsford Smith does not have to bear the entire load of the city’s air traffic.”
Mr Coleman said that there were important economic benefits of a second airport:
“A second airport is about ensuring that Sydney is positioned to grow in the decades ahead. It will mean more economic activity, and more opportunities for businesses and families to access our city.”
“It will bring jobs; it will bring infrastructure; it will finally give our city a world class solution for air traffic.”
Mr Coleman said that he would continue to advocate for a second Sydney airport within the Government.
