PANANIA DIGGERS RSL SUB-BRANCH RECEIVES FEDERAL FUNDING UNDER ARMISTICE GRANTS PROGRAM
David Coleman MP recently met with representatives from Panania Diggers, which has been awarded funding under the Federal Government’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program.
The Sub-Branch has been awarded more than $4, 000 towards the cost of installing a commemorative walkway and plaque, as well as towards restoring the Veterans’ Board at the Panania Diggers Club.
The Armistice Centenary Grants Program provides funding for local community-based projects and activities that commemorate the end of the First World War.
“It is important that we remember the extraordinary sacrifices of Australians in the First World War," Mr Coleman said. “The construction of a commemorative walkway will provide a way for the local community to do just that. I am pleased this grant has been provided.”
“This walkway is an important milestone for our club in remembering the sacrifices of locals,” said Mr Joe Kaplun, the Sub-Branch’s Senior Vice-President. “The Centenary of WWI is an important occasion in our history and the club wants to ensure that it is commemorated and never forgotten. The Federal DVA Grant is also a reminder that it is forever remembered at a national level.”
