The Early Years Support Service at 3Bridges in Penshurst has seen referrals to the program triple in recent months due to challenges arising from COVID-19.

David Coleman MP, Federal Member for Banks, met with staff and volunteers at 3Bridges in Penshurst to mark six months of progress on the Early Years Support Service and to discuss the program’s ongoing support for vulnerable families throughout the COVID-19 period.

The Early Years Support Service is a vital early intervention program for new parents who are vulnerable due to social isolation. It provides parents with a weekly visit from a family support worker who assists them in caring for their children and accessing essential services and information.

A $250,000 grant from the Federal Government was provided to 3Bridges to run the program. The program was launched at the beginning of this year and is expected to run until mid-2021.

“I’m pleased that we were able to support 3Bridges in running this critical in-home support service for the parents in our community that are vulnerable due to isolation,” said Mr Coleman.

“The presence of a family support worker provides relief for new parents and gives them an opportunity to reach out for help during this particularly difficult time.”

“The program has so far assisted many families during one of the most critical times of their lives, parenthood,” said Barry Gallagher, interim CEO of 3Bridges. “We look forward to continuing to be able to support the most vulnerable families in our community.”
