Queenie Chen of Beverly Hills, a Year 10 student from Blakehurst High School, was today announced as the winner of the 2016 Banks Leadership Scholarship.
The Banks Leadership Scholarship was launched in 2013 by the Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman MP, and is given to Year 10 students in Banks who display a strong combination of academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.
“Queenie is an outstanding local student who has performed incredibly well in all aspects of her schooling,” Mr Coleman said.
“Queenie excels academically and has many awards highlighting her high levels of commitment and dedication to her studies. She has also participated in a broad range of extracurricular activities, from sport through to peer support programs.”
“The judges were particularly impressed with Queenie’s community service work and dedication to helping others. In particular, she has worked with the Rotary Club of Kogarah, the Salvation Army and the 40 Hour Famine,” said Mr Coleman.
As the winner of the scholarship, Queenie has won $500 for educational costs, $250 in book vouchers, and lunch and a guided tour for her family at Parliament House in Canberra.
“I’d like to congratulate Queenie on her achievement.”
