Federal Member For Banks
Shadow Minister for Communications

David held a Community Meeting in Padstow on April 11 to discuss his opposition to the Padstow Plan with the local community.

At the meeting, David said that the Padstow Plan was wrong for the area:

“Under Bankstown Council’s Padstow Plan, more than 30 streets in the Padstow area would be rezoned to allow for buildings of between 3 and 8 stories”, Mr Coleman said.  “That would result in a massive change to the environment of Padstow, and affect the character of the suburb forever.  The Plan would even allow 6 storey buildings to be built across the road from Padstow Park Primary School, which would be completely inappropriate.”

More than 50 local residents attended the meeting, which was held at Carl Little Reserve, Cahors Road.  Mr Coleman said that the meeting had provided a good opportunity for local residents to express their concerns:

“Hundreds of people have responded to my surveys on this issue, saying that they don’t support the Padstow Plan.  It’s important that this message is heard by Bankstown Council.  I am strongly urging the Council to tear up the current Plan and go back to the drawing board.”
