MINISTER PAYNE AND DAVID COLEMAN VISIT HURSTVILLE CENTRELINK TO DISCUSS DIGITAL SERVICES

Department of Human Services staff working with the multicultural Hurstville community today demonstrated how the department’s range of digital services are making a difference for local residents.

Visiting the Hurstville Service Centre last week with Member for Banks, David Coleman, Minister for Human Services, Senator the Hon Marise Payne said meeting with frontline staff was a valuable opportunity.

“Up to 300 people walk through the doors of this busy service centre on Forest Road each day,” Minister Payne said.

“Staff continue to deliver essential services and payments to local residents, it’s also great to see the take-up of our digital options,” Minister Payne said.

“I’m pleased to see that more and more Hurstville residents are taking advantage of the department’s range of digital options, including accessing online services through the myGov website and the range of Express Plus apps for smartphones and mobile devices.

“Staff here at Hurstville are available to sit down with customers and guide them through how to register for myGov and use their online account, and even help them to download the Express Plus apps so they can carry out basic transactions on the go.”

Mr Coleman said the visit was a good opportunity to meet with staff and discuss issues with local residents.

“It’s important that all residents, regardless of their language and background, can access important government services and payments in a simple and convenient way”, Mr Coleman said.

“The Express Plus Lite smartphone app is translated into three languages, including written Chinese, which makes it easier for many of the Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking Hurstville jobseekers to report their employment income or update their details quickly and easily.

“As well, this service centre’s specialised language interpreters and Multicultural Services Officer play an integral role in linking the diverse Hurstville communities with the department.”
