Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman MP, joined the Prime Minister, the Hon. Tony Abbott MP and the Premier of NSW, the Hon. Mike Baird MP today to announce the beginning of construction on the King Georges Road Interchange Upgrade.
“It was great to announce that construction has begun on the King Georges Road Interchange Upgrade, 18 months ahead of schedule”, Mr Coleman said.
“The King Georges Road Interchange is one of the city’s worst bottlenecks”.
“Of the 100,000 motorists who use the M5 every day, nearly half get stuck at the King Georges Road interchange”.
“This project will widen and extend the eastbound on-ramp and westbound off-ramp between King Georges Road and the M5 East, increasing ramp lengths by 180 metres”.
“The upgrade will cut travel times at the interchange by up to half, as well as alleviating delays along the M5 East and King Georges Road”.
This upgrade has been accelerated by a concessional loan from the Federal Government. The Federal Government also provided a total of $1.5 billion in grant funding to the project.
The project is due to be finished in two years.
