Communications Minister Michelle Rowland needs to explain the full impact of a reported 400 new job cuts at Australia Post.
The Australian is tonight reporting that the cull has already started with hundreds of jobs set to go from Australia Post’s Melbourne head office.
Back in June, 2020, the-then Shadow Communications Minister posted on social media that “Labor vows to oppose Australia Post cuts”.
So now, questions about job cuts at Australia Post sit at her door. The Minister can’t duck and weave or try to blame others.
Tomorrow morning, Minister Rowland needs to front up and explain exactly how many jobs are going and when. Is the quoted figure of 400 right, or will there be even more job losses?
What will be the impacts on postal services? How will post offices be affected? What is the risk to regional postal services from all these job cuts?
Minister Rowland is very active when there is mobile black spot funding to give out to Labor seats. But she is oddly silent on this issue and so many others. The Minister owes it to Australia Post customers and workers to explain the full impacts of these job cuts.
