Rowland’s Black Spot Grants Debacle Continues

Minister Directed Department to Provide Labor Electorates with 25 out of 26 Grants in NSW

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland has chosen Labor electorates for 25 out of 26 available grants in New South Wales under the Improving Mobile Coverage Round of the Mobile Black Spots Program.

No locations were chosen based on the advice of the Department. The Minister directed her Department to ensure that only these specific locations received funding.

Minister Rowland was particularly focused on the Eden-Monaro electorate, which is held by Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Kristy McBain. Minister Rowland directed that Eden-Monaro receive nine grants, while the neighbouring Coalition electorates of Farrer, Riverina and Hume received none.

The Improving Mobile Coverage Round of the Black Spots program is a disgraceful misuse of taxpayer money to favour the Labor Party. Minister Rowland must give a full account of her role in this shameful episode.
