BANKS 2015 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Peakhurst Heights resident and President of the Autism Community Network (ACN), Mr Warren Thompson, has been named the 2015 Banks Volunteer of the Year.

Mr Thompson was nominated by staff at ACN for his dedication to the organisation and his energy and enthusiasm.

More than 50 local volunteers across the Banks electorate were awarded 2015 Banks Volunteer of the Year Awards at an Award ceremony hosted on July 15 by Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman MP.

Attendees were entertained by SING Australia and an address by special guest, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP.

Mr Coleman said volunteering is very important in the St George area.

“These awards enable local community organisations to publicly recognise the large contribution made by volunteers”.

“It was great to have Malcolm Turnbull to present these Awards to the nominees”.

Minister Turnbull gave a speech emphasising the importance of volunteering to modern Australia.

Recipients from CASS included Jenny Tang, recognised for helping aged, isolated and disadvantaged Chinese residents in the area, and Polly Tang for her work in assisting Chinese- speaking seniors.

Andy Chin of BLIA was also recognised for his work caring for elderly people and the environment.
