COLEMAN CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL YOUTH AWARDS

Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman MP, is calling on schools, community groups and families to nominate local young people for the National Youth Awards.

“The National Youth Awards are an Australian Government initiative that acknowledges and celebrates the outstanding achievements of Australia’s young people,” Mr Coleman said.

There are seven award categories. Six are for individual young Australians aged 12 – 25 years and one is for a journalist or reporter (no age limit) whose story has positively portrayed youth in the media. The categories are:

  • Youth Health Award
  • Youth Employment Award
  • Youth Leadership Award
  • Youth Safety Award
  • Youth Courage Award
  • Youth Culture & Diversity Award
  • Youth in Media Award

“Young people contribute greatly to our community, and there are many doing outstanding work that should be recognised,” Mr Coleman said.

“Ashlee Hodson of Belmore did our region proud in this year’s awards when she was named a finalist in the Youth Employment category. I hope to see another local in the spotlight for the great work they do in our community.

“I strongly encourage anyone – including parents, friends, teachers, and colleagues – to nominate a young person they know who is deserving of recognition for the work they do”.

The application period is open until 27 November 2014. The Awards will be announced during National Youth Week in April 2015.
