David Coleman MP recently visited St Mark’s Anglican Church, South Hurstville, which has been awarded funding under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Grants Program.
St Mark’s will receive $8,000 towards upgrades to the Church which will improve disability access to the community meeting room and on-site preschool.
“I’m pleased to see work underway at St Mark’s South Hurstville,” said Mr Coleman. “Access to the community space and pre-school has been difficult for members of the Church and the wider community who utilise these facilities.”
A number of community groups currently meet in the hall, including a craft group and book club, but the Church community anticipates the improved access will allow more community organisations to utilise the space. Step free access to the Preschool will allow parents with prams and young children to access the facility more easily.
Mr Coleman met with the Rector of St Mark’s, Reverend Peter Greenwood, to discuss the upgrades.
“These upgrades will benefit the wider South Hurstville community, including St Mark’s Preschool,” said Reverend Greenwood. “We would like as many people as possible to have access to our facilities. Having step-free access to our lower hall makes this possible. A new pathway to our Preschool with a dual security gate will mean that we can ensure the safety of the children in our Preschool.”
St Mark’s Anglican Church is located at The Mall, South Hurstville, and has been open to the community since 1919. The onsite preschool was established in 1970.
